This morning my children challenged me spiritually–again. We usually let the kids watch something in the morning while they eat their breakfast and today that something was Kung Fu Panda which has recently dethroned Lightning McQueen and the rest of the “Cars” as champion of the Higgins family television. Before eating we have both of the kids thank God for their food. Elli’s version of this is to just say “Amen!” which works well for a 1 year old. Today Judah prayed this way: “Thank you Jesus for this food. Help Judah eat it all gone. Thank you for Kung Fu Panda. Amen!”

Tamra and I looked at each other for verification that we heard him correctly. She commented how sweet it was because he was sincerely thanking God for something that brings him a lot of joy. I thought for a moment about how many little things I have in my life that bring me joy that I take for granted. Things like coffee, the floor plan of our house, my brown Converse All-Stars, coffee, food to eat, this blog, six guitars, and not to mention coffee.

From time to time I make it a point to thank God for all of the things he has blessed me with and today my son made me stop and thank God for all the little things that make me smile. What are the simple things God has blessed you with? Stop and think about it once in a while.
