Recently my wife and I went to a restaurant here in Sandpoint with our two kids called, Fiesta Bonita, that we had heard good things about. When we got in there we saw that they had high-chairs so we assumed they were a family friendly establishment. However, when our daughter needed her diaper changed there were no changing tables in either of the bathrooms. My wife ended up having to change her in the car despite my persistance to do it on table in front of everyone.
I don’t understand how completely ignorant businesses can be! They had high-chairs so obviously the possibility of someone bringing a child into that place had crossed their mind at least once. I wrote the owner a letter asking him to add changing tables or put a sign on the front door that says they don’t have them so other people won’t make the same mistake we did. The same thing happened in a KFC in Couer D’Alene–they had high-chairs and no changing tables. Perhaps I am just getting worked up over nothing, but, what is so hard to provide changing tables? It’s not like I’m talking about fancy restaurants: KFC and a Chevy’s wannabe.
I am hereby encouraging you…nay commissioning you…other parents out there to let your voice be heard! You don’t have to be a jerk about it, but, politely ask to speak to the manager or write them a letter and request they add changing tables. It’s a small request which can make a difference.
